After the lengths I went to, it's quite annoying that unplugging a little dongle solved all of my problems, so I'm just posting this to potentially save someone from that deep. I literally spent hours troubleshooting this, so I thought I'd mention it. It was to the point where the start bar was (temporarily) burnt into my monitor, it's started to go away now, but I had actually never seen that before in an LCD panel. However, if the dongle is connected, my computer will not go to sleep or even allow the monitor to go to sleep, regardless of whether or not I've even touched the remote in days. I know this is kind of a necro post, but I just wanted to mention something that I thought might be useful to others. It takes a little getting used to stopping and re-starting the mouse position so your wrist isn't twisting into itself to get to the position you want but once you do it's very quick and easy. I still recommend it as I find it better than the x1 controller with steam's desktop configuration (for one that tends to disconnect after a tv show ends). I can't change it to hibernate instead of shutting down for example. When I set it up in eventghost to do something else, it still does the original action in addition to the new one I set up, which isn't ideal. When they do show up in showkey.exe, they're just standard keyboard keys. Like the internet explorer key doesn't do anything and nothing shows up in showkey when I press it. I tried with EventGhost and used ShowKey to show what the key press was, to remap things to alt tab etc, the problem is some of the keys don't show up (I think they're intended for android, an older OS.or just not mapped properly). The only thing I've had trouble with is the hotkeys. I've been using this since your recommendation came up in a PC on TV thread previously and it's been awesome - even though I bought the MX3-L, the ebay seller sent me a slightly different version with less buttons. Only affects if you try and remap media keys, tho. It used to be much easier in earlier windows, where they had an actual menu option to disable media keys, but in windows 10 it has to be done in the registry. The trick is to look up registry entries online to disable those media key shortcuts. I repurposed it into a task switching button, but that meant when I pressed the button, it would both open a webbrowser and switch tasks at the same time. These only have 5 buttons, but the upside is they're always available for access, no need to switch.ĭid you see the posts I made earlier explaining how to remap the MCE keys on the remote to do other tasks in windows? One thing I forgot to add, sometimes windows has a task already associated with a media key, like the browser button is made to open a webbrowser in windows automatically. With all the switches and such, it added up to like 100+ programmable buttons. So the "power button" could be a different power button depending on mode. So you could make one button switch the remote to "sound bar mode" and the screen would say "sound bar," and while in this mode, every single button on the remote could be reprogrammed to send IR commands. The Gyration ones had mode switching buttons at the top - 4 of them IIRC, and the remote had a screen you could program to tell you which mode you were in. The lack of more IR programmable buttons is just about the only real fault with this controller compared to the gyration ones I used prior.
